Observations and analysis from the 7/2/2020 COVID-19 dataset and previous weeks including the rise of new hospitalizations and analysis of temporal relationships between data series. And more.
COVID-19 in Colorado – June 24, 2020 update
The rate of new cases in Colorado is increasing again. New hospitalizations are flat and expected to start increasing again. Deaths are presently and thankfully few compared to even a month ago, but will start climbing when hospitalizations increase.
Dear governors of pandemic-stricken states: citizens staying home to avoid catching COVID-19 and not spending money shuts down your economy as thoroughly as a lockdown order. The difference is that lockdowns save lives, while refusing to issue a lockdown to avoid "shutting down the economy" kills people. Choose wisely.
Dear Home Depot in Westminster, Colorado
The Westminster, Colorado Home Depot was a madhouse today, with too many people not wearing masks and no attempts to maintain social distancing. This is not acceptable.
COVID-19 in Colorado – May 28, 2020 update
There's not a lot of change from last week to this week's COVID data, except that number of of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths per day is stabilizing, rather than continuing to drop.
Weekly COVID-19 based on the 5/21/2020 data
The number of new cases is down. New hospitalizations are down. Deaths are also down, but they show worrying signs of stabilizing at levels higher than I would want to see.
I want schools to reopen too. 100% in-person would be lovely. But it's not going to happen, and the sooner we accept this fact and prepare for what will be instead of what we wish, the better off we'll all be.
No weekly COVID-19 post for last week
Too much going on around here with the end of the school year and working from home. I'll have an update this week, likely published this weekend.
Governors: it’s time to call up your National Guard
What will we choose - bowing down to the terrorists who would reject the states' authority to protect the public from COVID-19, or standing up to them even if that means using the National Guard to do so?
Governor Polis’ COVID-19 mitigations worked
Contrary to what the anti-stay-at-home activists claim, Governor Polis' mitigations were effective. They worked. And they saved lives.
