It is entirely reasonable that the same control measures (masks, distancing, et al) that are failing to control COVID-19 could be controlling influenza well. The devil is in the details.
Anti-maskers and COVID-hoaxers are claiming that a small CDC study published in September proves masks don't work. The study very nearly finds the opposite.
New cases are setting new records. Test positivity is over 5% again. New hospitalizations are clearly up and the trend goes back to just after schools statewide went back to in-person learning. And new deaths are starting to increase and will continue to do so until all Coloradans take the pandemic seriously.
The tweet above was misinformation when it was written, yet anti-maskers and COVID-hoaxers continue to share it. Here's my debunking of this tweet.
Cases are way up. Positivity is up a little. Hospitalizations are up just a bit. Deaths are still low, but unfortunately that's not going to last.
It's too early to say for sure, but there are some early signs that COVID-19 is increasing in Colorado as a result of schools going back into session.
Liability and cost are why boxes of disposable masks claim to be "not for medical use." The masks will still help reduce COVID-19 transmission.
