Teachers should not be martyrs for their students’ parents

Since Columbine, every teacher knows that they may be expected to give their lives for their students by literally becoming bullet sponges. But no teacher should be expected to become a martyr for the parents ability to work during a pandemic.

If teachers are essential workers like police, paramedics, and firepeople, then teachers should be afforded the same respect and paid appropriately.
